FOR ALL ONE AND TWO-FAMILY DWELLINGS: Inspection of Smoke Detectors: The State of New Jersey requires the installation and inspection of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and fire extinguishers (Fire extinguisher to be a 2A:10B:C and no larger than 10 lbs) prior to the sale, rental, transfer or lease of one and two-family dwelling units. To obtain a Certificate of Compliance, call the Fire Prevention Bureau at least 3-weeks prior to change of tenant or house closing at 201-444-7898 to set up an appointment. The Bureau conducts inspections Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Fee: If Certificate is requested to be issued more than 10 days before inspection - 75 dollars; within 10 days - 150 dollars; within 3 days 200 dollars. Also, any dwelling that has a monitored Central Station Fire Alarm System is required to register the alarm system with the Fire Department by calling 201-444-8822. FOR BUSINESS OWNERS: All Businesses in the Village are required to be registered with the Fire Prevention Bureau prior to moving into a new office or store. Also all businesses must be inspected once annually.
